Diederik introduces himself
Since December 2018, Diederik Hermsen has been working as a commercial advisor at Unbound VR. He is the contact point for consumers and businesses, provides advice on purchasing and maintaining VR-hardware, and ensures proper handling of orders. In the text below, Diederik introduces himself.
Diederik Hermsen
"Hello everyone! My name is Diederik Hermsen and I have been working full time at Unbound VR since December. My tasks include managing orders efficiently, troubleshooting and problem-solving, purchasing the latest VR-producten, ensuring the newest products reach customers, and advising on the purchase of VR-producten. Additionally, I will be involved in creating content, and you can already see the first product in the form of this newsletter!"
About me
A brief introduction about myself: I am 24 years old, living in Nijmegen, and recently graduated in HBO-opleiding sport, health, and management. Although there is no direct link between sport, health, and virtual reality, I believe there are similarities and opportunities for collaboration. For instance, think about the implementation of E-Sports within virtual reality and the possibilities it brings. I believe sport can be a great addition to the gaming world and can promote health in an enjoyable way!
As you might notice, I am quite sporty and sport might even be my passion. Nevertheless, I also have a fascination for technology, particularly the speed at which it evolves. The first prototype VR-headset in 2011 was cobbled together in a garage (the first Oculus Rift), and it amazes me how many new developments and techniques have emerged in just a few years. I am very curious about where virtual reality will be in a few years' time, and I hope to be a part of it at Unbound VR."
Cool! Virtuix is bringing a new attraction to the VR-markt in January: the Omniverse VR ARENA!
An location-based entertainment system that allows four players to play simultaneously on Omni platforms, powered by Omniverse content. A revolutionary development in the gaming world! Imagine the possibilities the VR ARENA offers for E-Sports; four players competing against - or with - each other in the VR ARENA, battling for victory! How awesome is that?!
VR Arena
The VR ARENA is designed to elevate E-Sports to the next level. By organising competitions where serious cash prizes can be won, the VR ARENA adds significant value to competitive VR-arcades. Fantastic opportunities that the VR ARENA brings for arcades:
VR E-Sports becomes more well-known and players return to the arcade to play/train. The competition enhances team spirit, leading players to return more quickly and start their own community;
The VR ARENA is fully automated, requiring minimal external intervention. Players step into the VR ARENA, prepare themselves, and can start right away. Additionally, the VR ARENA manages the queue, minimising waiting times;
During 'waiting times', logos, promotions, social media, and/or other videos from your business can be displayed. This increases brand awareness of the arcade and ensures that people remember their experience at your VR-arcade;
The VR ARENA runs on Omniverse content, with 18 different games from various genres currently available. New games are being developed rapidly, so the game-aanbod will only expand further (currently 7 games in development... more coming soon);
With the new Omni 2.0 motion technology, your experience on the Omni Virtuix is even better. Walking and running have never felt so realistic in the virtual world!
VR is developing at a rapid pace
This is good news for users because the hard- and software are getting better and better! There are several interesting developments in the field of VR-headsets coming in the near future.
1. Oculus Quest
Possibly the most exciting new headset coming soon is the Oculus Quest. In addition to the Oculus Rift (which must be connected to a PC) and the Oculus GO (no PC needed, but not very powerful), Oculus is releasing the Quest, which is powerful enough to compare to the Rift but priced closer to the GO. The release is scheduled for early 2019, so the Oculus Quest won't be long now...
2. Pimax 5K Plus, 8K and 8K Plus
With the Pimax 2.5K and 4K, Pimax has already established a decent foundation for VR-headsets. But soon, they will release the Pimax 5K Plus, 8K, and 8K Plus! The Pimax 8K promises to be the first VR-headset with a resolution of 1840x2160 per eye, significantly reducing the screen-door-effect. Additionally, the new models will feature a ultra-wide field of view of 200°!
3. Samsung Odyssey Plus
The improved version of the Samsung Odyssey has a new design, giving it a sleeker look and making it more comfortable to wear. Extra padding has been added, the nose space has been widened, and there is additional room to comfortably wear over glasses. Additionally, Samsung has added a so-called anti-SDE Amoled screen to the Odyssey Plus, which significantly reduces screen-door-effect.
Top 10 most played Arcade games
There is a difference in the type of game you play at home - solo - and the type of game you play in a VR-arcade. When you are at home with a VR-headset, it can be fun to play a horror game or a game with a good story. But in a VR-arcade, you want to play a arcade-type game, because you want an exciting and energetic experience in a short amount of time. Our VR-collegas from Los Angeles - SpringboardVR - have put together a list of games that were most played in November 2018 in over 185 VR-arcadehallen worldwide - based on the total number of minutes played. Maybe you will find something interesting to try in the VR-arcade... or, of course, to game at home!
