Information about VIVE Location Based Software Suite (LBSS)

VR Arcades and Location Based Entertainment (LBE) environments are gaining popularity worldwide

The HTC VIVE Focus 3 is currently one of the most widely used VR Glasses in LBE environments (VR arcades). With its powerful hardware and rich software ecosystem, the VIVE Focus 3 is flexible to deploy and easy to deploy on a larger scale. The VIVE Focus 3 offers 5K image resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate, can receive WiFi 6 and 6E, and has a built-in battery that can be exchanged during gameplay.

The battery of the Focus 3 is hot-swappable. This means that the battery can be disconnected while using the Headset and replaced with a new battery. During the exchange, the Headset simply remains on, so that the player never runs out of power. The Focus 3 can also be linked with to the HTC VIVE Wrist tracker for specific games that involve the use of hands or other attributes (such as a tennis racket or baseball bat) to the digital to be brought to the world.

The Focus 3 comes standard with a HTC VIVE Business Warranty. This business guarantee ensures that companies can use the Headset in a commercial environment without any problems. Additional services such as direct HTC support, accelerated RMA repair and a device management system are included. In addition, the VIVE Focus 3 with operates on an open platform, making it easy to link to external MDM systems, such as ArborXR.

Because the demand for additional functionalities from the VR market is increasing (including from the art and culture sector), LBE's software is being renamed to Location Based Software Suite (LBSS). The new LBSS includes the following:

1. Map Sharing: Multiple players in the same room

Map Sharing means that there are multiple users on one playspace. The room configuration of 1 Headset can be shared with several headsets, making the room faster to configure and players can get started faster. This is ideal for LBE locations using the VIVE Focus 3 in a free-roam multiplayer environment (e.g. Cops vs. Robbers). It is possible to save multiple type of room settings on the glasses. This makes it easy to switch between different rooms and headsets does not have to be configured individually each time.

2. Visual Odometry (VO): Switch users faster

This makes it easier to get users straight into the VR experience. with Visual Odometry (VO) determines the Headset's position and orientation in space. Normally this is an extensive configuration that a user has to perform in his or her room every time. But with VO mode allows users to bypass the default environment setup process, so that they are immediately in the correct environment as soon as they set up the Headset.

3. LBE Hybrid Mode: Easy onboarding of new players

LBE Hybrid Mode provides a seamless transition between VO and LBE modes, so users can immediately put on the Headset and get going. By using VO mode, users can start in VR while still in the preparation area, where they can set everything up and get used to the Headset. After entering the designated play area, they can instantly switch to LBE mode for the full experience. This smooth transition ensures that users can switch even faster.

4. Simulator VR Mode (3 DOF and 6 DOF)

The Simulator Mode is a unique solution where the type tracking can be specified in the Headset. In some environments you want to have a realistic experience where the VR Glasses moves with with the user (for example during a VR training or other demo). But in other cases you want the user to only be able to look around and not have to move around, even in with low-light areas (for example, a car cabin or a cinema). In that case, the 3 DOF mode can help.

5. Tag-based tracking

Like QR codes, ArUco codes are easily reproducible visual trackers that provide unique ID points and additional position information to VR Glasses in real time. ArUco codes can provide additional tracking points to reduce positional drift, and they can serve as unique markers to align virtual objects with real environments for more immersive experiences.

with ArUco markers can instantly detect and align the VIVE Focus 3 coordination in a shared space. Marker-based location sharing is ideal for eliminating the typical cumbersome setup processes associated with with multi-user VR experiences, such as calibrating each Headset from a specific starting point in the play space.
