The Omni One Enterprise is a remarkable piece of engineering and offers business users one of the most comprehensive locomotion experiences in VR. This omnidirectional treadmill enables you to naturally navigate a virtual environment without using physical space. The setup is intended for professional use – and it shows in every aspect.
Motion Quality
Walking in VR with the Omni One may initially feel a bit awkward. Personally, I reached an acceptable level of motion within two minutes, but it wasn't until ten minutes in that it truly began to feel natural. The construction provides support and safety, but also gives the slight sensation of pulling a trolley. This makes walking a bit heavier than in the real world. However, this feeling quickly fades as you become immersed in the experience – particularly during intensive applications such as training simulations or scenario-based learning.
Build Quality
The finish of the Omni One Enterprise is high-quality. The system is solid, stable, and clearly built for intensive use. The harness construction feels safe and sturdy, with enough freedom of movement for both forward and sideward steps. The walking surface is also well-designed: smooth enough for fluid movement, but with enough grip to keep you stable.
Compatibility
The Omni One comes with an integrated VR headset (standard a customised Pico or similar), and runs on a closed system with its own software platform. For enterprise customers, there is support for specific apps and customised experiences. Full integration with custom software is possible via the Omni SDK. Therefore, it's not 'plug & play' for any random VR game, but rather ideal for organisations that want to develop or train targeted applications.
Comfort
The combination of the harness and the inclined walking plate takes some getting used to, but also provides safety and precision. Over time, you almost forget you're in a harness. The walking itself is a bit more intensive than normal walking, contributing to physical involvement and engagement – but this should be taken into account for prolonged use.
