How do you clean a VR Headset?

Cleaning and keeping your VR Headset clean will make the glasses & Controllers last longer. But what's the best way to clean a VR headset? And how do you keep the Controllers clean? In this blog we explain all the ins and outs of cleaning and maintaining your VR headset!

When a Headset is used a lot, you will soon notice that the Headset can get dirty and start to smell. This is of course not surprising; when you are fanatically playing a game of Beat Saber or VR Boxing, you start to sweat pretty quickly! But did you know that sweat and dirt can have adverse effects on the performance of your headset? Not only is it unpleasant to use a dirty Headset, but it can also destroy your glasses! For example, think of lenses that fog up or scratch more quickly, or the facial interface that becomes hard and no longer sits comfortably on the face.

We are therefore happy to provide you with a handy step-by-step plan on this page to keep your VR Headset in tip-top order at all times. After all, a clean Headset means a nicer playing experience!

How do you prevent dirt in the VR glasses?

Step 1 is to prevent dirt in your VR Glasses. Logical of course, because prevention is better than cure. A good way to keep your VR Glasses hygienic is to add a cotton face cover to your VR Glasses. A cotton cover is a 100% cotton cover that you can simply put over the face foam of the Headset. As a result, your face does not make direct contact with with the soft foam of the face cover, so that sweat does not collect in the foam, but in the cotton cover. And the advantage of a cotton cover is of course that you can easily wash it in the washing machine! The cotton face covers are available in all sizes and shapes. Zo is er altijd wel een katoenen hoesje die geschikt is voor de VR Headset die jij gebruikt!

Instead of a cotton face cover you can of course also use a disposable mask. These are - often white - masks that you can use one or more times. You simply put the masks on your face or you stick the masks on the Headset - depending on which disposable masks you use. Our most sold disposable masks are the universal attachable face masks. The advantage of these masks is that they can be used universally, so you don't have to look for them specifically for some kind of VR glasses. Due to the sturdy material, the masks sit comfortably on the face and do not get in the way during play. The disposable masks are ideal to use when you let several people play on the same Headset.

What can you do to maintain the VR glasses on a daily basis?

It is advisable to wipe the Headset after use with with a cleaning cloth or disinfectant spray. This prevents dust from accumulating inside and outside the Headset. In addition, it also has the added advantage that the Headset smells fresh and fruity again after a short cleaning! For added convenience, it is recommended that you replace the original face foam of your Headset with with a PU leather face replacement. A PU leather face replacement is a new face replacement made of imitation leather. The outer material of this face replacement is a lot firmer than the original foam face replacement of a VR Headset, making this replacement a lot easier to clean. Simply run a cleaning cloth over the PU leather and you will see that the Headset is immediately fresh and clean to use again.

How do you clean the lenses of VR glasses?

An important part of your VR Headset are of course the lenses. After all, the lens of your VR glasses is about 5 to 10 centimeters away from your face, so every scratch or dust is greatly magnified in your field of vision. It is therefore advisable to regularly wipe the lenses of the VR Headset with a microfiber cloth (let op, doe dit not with kitchen or toilet paper in connection with risk of scratches). If the lens is really dirty, we recommend that you use a special one Lens cleaner Spray for VR glasses to use to clean the lens. This spray has been extensively tested and ensures that spots and other dirt can easily be removed from the lens without damaging the lens. Make sure that you do not spray the spray directly on the lenses, but first on a cloth. This prevents that - unexpected - residue can be left behind.

In addition, we can recommend that everyone at all during one KlearKare Universal VR Lens Protection to use. This is a small layer of hardened plastic that you can apply to the lenses of your VR glasses (compare with a screen protector for your phone). A VR lens protector prevents scratches on the lenses of the Headset, even if you with play glasses under your VR headset, for example. This actually makes the VR lens protector an indispensable accessory to use with your VR Headset.

How to clean the VR headset and Controllers?

Fortunately, the Headset and Controllers themselves are fairly easy to clean. We recommend that you occasionally Headset wipe the with with a microfiber cloth to remove the dust layer. When you notice that the Headset no longer smells so fresh, it is possible to use a disinfectant spray. The disinfectant spray ensures that bacteria on the Headset and in the foam die, so that unpleasant odors quickly disappear and the Headset smells 'like new' again. The same goes for the Controllers; occasionally spray with the disinfectant spray over the Controllers so that you are sure that no dirty bacteria or other dirt remains on the Controllers!
