What we know so far about the Sony PlayStation VR 2

The latest PlayStation VR headset - PlayStation VR 2, abbreviated as PSVR2 - has been announced and is expected on 22nd February 2023. The VR headset from PlayStation can be connected to the PlayStation game-consoles, such as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

PlayStation VR2 release date: 22nd February 2022

The PlayStation VR 2 is expected to hit the market on 22nd February 2023. This was announced by Sony in a recent blog The PSVR2 can be connected to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The PSVR2 has an HDR resolution with OLED screen. The resolution of the new headset is 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye. The OLED screen ensures that the gaming environment looks sharp and colourful. Unique to the PlayStation VR 2 headset is that both the glasses and the controllers will have haptic feedback. This means that the glasses and the controllers can physically move along with sound or other movements. This can also help to prevent motion sickness.

Unique VR system for PlayStation 5

PSVR is the only VR headset that works with the PlayStation gaming console. The PlayStation VR 2 is easily connected with the USB-C cable to a PS5. With the first generation PSVR, a separate adapter was needed to connect the camera. With the PSVR2, this adapter has been removed, so you only need to connect one cable to be able to play with the headset. This makes it even easier to grab the glasses, and you are attached to fewer cables giving you more freedom of movement. This way, you won't be distracted by the environment in which you are playing.

Exclusive games on PlayStation VR2

There are several unique and exclusive games available for the new PlayStation VR 2 headset. The biggest game being released is Horizon: Call of The Mountain. Developers Guerrilla and Firesprite are working together to develop a brand new Horizon adventure that offers a completely unique experience. Also, games such as Hello Neighbor, City Skylines and Dark Pictures are being reimagined in VR for the new PSVR2-bril. Unfortunately, the old games for the first PSVR-headset are not playable on the new PlayStation VR 2 glasses.

Accessories and bundles for PlayStation VR 2

The controllers are included as standard with the PlayStation VR 2 headset. These are a new type of controllers, Sony Touch controllers. The controllers have a unique new design and promise accurate hand tracking and haptic feedback. Sony has already indicated that they will release at least one bundle with the exclusive PlayStation-game Horizon: Call of The Mountain. With this, you get a voucher code for the game in addition to the starter pack. Furthermore, Sony has confirmed that another accessory will be launched, namely the PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller charging station. This allows you to charge both controllers without extra cables. It is not yet known if more bundles or accessories will become available.
