Cleaning Your VR Headset
Cleaning and maintaining your VR headset ensures that the headset and controllers last longer. But how can you best clean a VR-headset? And how do you keep the controllers clean? In this blog, we explain all the ins-en-outs of cleaning and maintaining your VR-headset!
Handy Step-by-Step Guide
When a headset is used frequently, you'll soon notice that it can get dirty and start to smell. This is not surprising; when you're energetically playing a game of Beat Saber or VR Boxing, you start sweating quite quickly! But did you know that sweat and grime can negatively affect the performance of your headset? Not only is it unpleasant to use a dirty headset, but it can also damage your headset! For example, lenses can fog up more quickly or get scratched, or the facial interface can harden and become uncomfortable on the face.
On this page, we are happy to give you a handy step-by-step guide to keep your VR headset in perfect condition. After all, a clean headset means a better gaming experience!
How Do You Prevent Dirt in the VR-bril?
Step 1 is to prevent dirt in your VR headset. Naturally, prevention is better than cure. A good way to keep your VR headset hygienic is to add a cotton face cover to your VR headset. A cotton cover is a cover made of 100% cotton that you can easily place over the foam interface of the headset. This way, your face does not make direct contact with the soft foam of the facial interface, so sweat does not get into the foam but into the cotton cover. And the advantage of a cotton cover is that you can easily wash it in the washing machine! Cotton face covers come in various sizes and shapes, so there is always a suitable cotton cover for the VR headset you use!

Instead of a cotton face cover, you can also use a disposable mask. These are - often white - masks that you can use once or several times. You can simply place the masks on your face or attach them to the headset - depending on the type of disposable masks you use. Our best-selling disposable masks are the universally applicable face masks. The advantage of these masks is that they can be used universally, so you don’t need to look for a specific type for your VR-bril. Thanks to the sturdy material, the masks sit comfortably on the face and do not get in the way during play. Disposable masks are ideal for use when letting multiple people play on the same headset.
What Can You Do to Maintain the VR-bril Daily?
It is advisable to wipe the headset with a cleaning cloth after usedisinfectant spray. This prevents dust from accumulating in- around and outside the headset. In addition, it also has the extra benefit of making the headset smell fresh and clean after a short cleaning session! For extra convenience, it is advisable to replace the original foam interface of your headset with a PU-lederen facial replacement. A PU-lederen facial replacement is a new facial interface made from imitatie-leer. The outer material of this facial replacement is much sturdier than the original foam interface of a VR headset, making this replacement much easier to clean. Simply wipe it with a cleaning cloth, and you will see that the headset is immediately fresh and clean to use.
How Do You Clean the Lenses of a VR-bril?
An important part of your VR headset is, of course, the lenses. The lens of your VR-bril is, after all, about 5 to 10 centimetres from your face, so any scratch or speck of dust is greatly magnified in your field of view. Therefore, we recommend regularly wiping the VR headset lenses with a microfiber cloth (Note, do not use keuken- or toilet paper as they can scratch the lenses.). If the lens is really dirty, we recommend using a special Lens Cleaner Spray for VR-brillenspray to clean the lens. This spray is extensively tested and ensures that stains and other dirt can be easily removed from the lens without damaging it. Be careful not to spray directly on the lenses but first on a cloth. This prevents - unexpected - residue from being left behind.
Additionally, we recommend using a KlearKare Universal VR Lens Protector at all times. This is a small layer of hardened plastic that can be applied to the lenses of your VR-bril (similar to a screen protector for your phone). A VR lens protector prevents scratches on the headset lenses, even if you play with glasses under your VR-headset. This makes the VR lens protector an indispensable accessory for your VR headset.
How Do You Clean the VR-headset and Controllers?
Fortunately, the headset and controllers themselves are quite easy to clean. We recommend occasionally wiping the headset with a microfiber cloth to remove the layer of dust. If you notice that the headset is not smelling fresh, you can use a disinfectant spray. The disinfectant spray kills bacteria on the headset and in the foam, making bad odours disappear quickly and the headset smell 'like new' again. The same goes for the controllers; occasionally spray them with disinfectant spray to ensure no nasty bacteria or other dirt remains on the controllers!
