Xsens DOT Sensor
The Xsens DOT Sensor is a modern development platform for capturing, analysing, and reporting human movement. The sensor contains an advanced Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which consists of a combination of an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer. Together, these components record how a body part moves and orients in space. Thanks to this precise technology, the DOT delivers high-resolution data that can be easily viewed in the Xsens DOT app or integrated into software via the Xsens SDK.
The sensor is used in a variety of application areas. Within the sports world, the DOT helps athletes and coaches better understand and improve movements such as running, jumping or swinging. In healthcare and rehabilitation, the sensor makes it possible to collect objective data about the recovery process, for example during physiotherapy. For ergonomic research, the DOT can be used to analyse work postures and repetitive movements, thus improving working conditions. Additionally, the sensor is used in academic research, where reliable movement data is needed to develop new insights or test innovative technologies.
A major advantage of the Xsens DOT Sensor is that multiple sensors can be used simultaneously. By combining data from different sensors, a complete picture of the body in motion is formed. This makes it possible to carry out both simple applications, such as measuring one joint, as well as complex full-body analyses. The sensor is light, compact and ergonomically designed, making it comfortable to wear without restricting freedom of movement.
With an IP68 rating, the DOT is water and dust resistant and therefore deployable in a variety of environments. The long battery life allows for a full day of uninterrupted data collection. For basic use, the free Xsens DOT app (Android/iOS) is available. For more advanced applications, such as integration into professional software, research or commercial projects, an additional software or SDK license is required which must be purchased separately from Xsens. Xsens also supports users with extensive documentation and access to an active community, significantly simplifying the development of new applications.
Please note: the Xsens DOT Sensor is supplied without accessories, such as cables or mounting options. These need to be ordered separately.
