The Seed Robotics RH8D is an advanced, adult-size robot hand designed for research environments, robotics development and integration with cobots and robot arms. The hand is inspired by the human hand and offers a high degree of mobility, enabling various gripping tasks and interactions with objects. Thanks to the opposable thumb, three-segment fingers and a fully movable wrist, the RH8D is suitable for applications where natural hand movements, object manipulation and human-like interaction are important.

The RH8D features 19 degrees of freedom and is driven by 8 smart actuators integrated within the hand itself. This under-actuated mechanical design provides a good balance between precise control and flexible adaptation to the shape of objects. This allows the hand to grip objects in a realistic and controlled manner, without each finger movement needing to be fully and complexly controlled individually.

For developers and researchers, the Seed Robotics RH8D offers extensive feedback capabilities. The actuators provide real-time information on position, speed, power consumption, temperature and load. In addition, the hand is equipped with a ToF distance sensor in the palm and can optionally be expanded with capacitive pads and FTS pressure sensors for precise force and contact sensing. This makes the RH8D particularly interesting for applications in robotics research, AI training, human-robot interaction, object recognition and advanced manipulation.

The RH8D has been developed with integration and software accessibility in mind. There are URDF models available for simulation, an open-source ROS package, Python support via PyPot and compatibility with the Dynamixel Protocol 1.0 and 2.0. The hand can be controlled via UART over RS485 or TTL and also has a USB interface for configuration and maintenance. Bluetooth is available as an option for online maintenance and diagnostics.

With a weight of approximately 620 grams, a vertical pulling load of up to 2.5 kg and a payload of up to 1 kg in 3D space, the RH8D offers a powerful and versatile solution for professional robotics setups. When mounted on a robot arm, the built-in wrist rotation can be bypassed if desired, so the rotation of the robot arm itself is used. This makes the Seed Robotics RH8D a strong choice for universities, R&D departments, robotics labs and developers who want to deploy a human-like robot hand for research, prototyping and advanced automation.
