Standalone, lightweight, and a sharp display

Put on the Pico 4 Enterprise and you can get started right away. You don't need any cables or a computer or laptop to connect the headset. This all-in-one VR headset is completely standalone. The Pico 4 Enterprise features a bright screen with ultra-thin pancake lenses, resulting in a compact form factor. Thanks to its light weight of just 300 grams, you can wear the headset comfortably for extended periods. The screen resolution is 4320 x 2160 pixels, ensuring beautifully detailed images. And with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, everything is played back very smoothly.

Pico 4 Enterprise versus Pico 4

Unlike the Pico 4, the Pico 4 Enterprise is designed for business use. This is evident in several ways. For instance, the Pico Store offers different applications specifically aimed at businesses to enhance productivity. With the Pico 4 Enterprise, you also have access to the Pico Business Suite. Additionally, the Enterprise version offers the option to sideload your own content and customised software. This allows you to install your own software on the headset. This is not possible with the consumer headset.

The biggest difference might be in the face- and eye-tracking capabilities. For this, the Pico 4 Enterprise is equipped with three extra internal cameras: two for the eyes and one for the face. This way, oog- and head movements can also be tracked. Finally, the Enterprise version has a different face cover made of PU leather. This face cover is very easy to clean, allowing the headset to be used hygienically by multiple people.

Why the Quest 3 Might Be a Better Choice Over Pico 4
I want to start by expressing my gratitude to Unbound for their exceptional support during our recent VR endeavours. Their service was impeccable, and it's important to acknowledge that my concerns are not with their team but with the Pico 4 headset itself.

Our developers have faced significant challenges due to the lacklustre support provided by Pico. The device's visual performance has been underwhelming, to say the least. The image clarity is inconsistent, lacking the smoothness you'd expect from a modern VR headset. The colours appear dark and washed out, a clear indication that Pico has compromised on the display quality. The pixel grid, marred by uneven spots and visible "holes", brings back the dreaded screen-door effect that we thought was a thing of the past.

Moreover, the colour passthrough feature of the Pico 4 falls short of being practically useful. This limitation hinders the immersive experience that VR promises, making it difficult for users to engage fully with the content.

Privacy concerns with Pico are another critical issue. The privacy agreements openly state that all collected data is shared with partners. Given that Bytedance, the parent company known for its data handling with TikTok in the West, is behind Pico, it's reasonable to suspect that VR data might also be treated similarly. For those who are wary of Meta due to privacy issues, Pico doesn't seem to offer a safer alternative.

In conclusion, while the Pico 4 has some commendable features, the overall package fails to impress. It's a mix of highs and lows, but unfortunately, the lows are too significant to ignore. In this state, the Pico 4 represents mediocrity rather than innovation. For those in search of a more reliable and well-rounded VR experience, I would suggest considering the Quest 3 as a preferable alternative.
