Protect Your VR-headset Against Sunlight

For all VR-headsets, but especially for standalone headsets like the Oculus Quest 2, it is vital to keep the headsets out of the sun at all times. Even the smallest sunrays directed at the lenses of the VR-bril can cause a burn mark on the lenses. These spots are often identifiable by a dark dot with a lighter ring around it. In some cases, the burn spot is so severe that it appears as a large smeared mark.

Accessories for Sun Protection

Unfortunately, sun damage, like val- and water damage, typically falls outside the standard warranty of a product. Therefore, make sure never to place the headset in the sun (especially not with the lenses facing it). This prevents unnecessary damage to your VR-headset.

The best way to protect your VR-headset from the sun is, of course, never to use the headset outdoors or in direct sunlight (in many cases, this also negatively affects tracking). If you do decide to use the VR-headset outdoors, always ensure that the VR-headset is never placed with the lenses facing the sun.

The following accessories are recommended to protect the lenses of your VR-headset:

Follow These Tips to Protect Your VR-headset

  • Never place your headset in direct sunlight to avoid damage to the lenses and the display. Your headset can be permanently damaged by less than a minute of exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Do not place your headset near sharp objects (such as cable ends or keys) to prevent scratches on the lenses.
  • Handle with care when adjusting the headset or the straps to avoid damaging them.
  • Do not use or wear the headset when it is connected to the power adapter or charging.

Avoiding General Damage

  • Never place your headset in extremely hot locations (such as inside a car).
  • Never place your headset near heat sources (such as a stove).
  • Never place your headset near pets or small children.
  • Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking near your headset.
  • Store your headset in a safe place when not in use.
