Which Accessories are a Must-Have?
From a head strap that makes the VR headset more comfortable to wear, to a charging station where you can conveniently store and charge your VR headset and controllers. There is now a handy accessory for almost everything. In this blog, we list our top accessories for the Meta Quest 2, so you can see at a glance what might be useful for you to use!
1. Elite Strap
Perhaps the most well-known accessory for the Quest 2 is the Elite Strap. But did you know that there are different types of Elite Straps? The most famous Elite Strap is the one from Oculus itself. This strap replaces the soft elastic that comes standard on the VR headset. At the back of the Elite Strap, there is a round cushion and a dial. With this dial, you can adjust the head strap, making it significantly more comfortable than the standard elastic bands.
Alternatively, there are Elite Straps from BoboVR and KIWI design. The BoboVR M2 Elite Strap is characterised by placing a wide face cushion against the forehead. This better distributes the weight of the VR headset overall, reducing pressure against the eyes. The BoboVR Elite Strap is available with and without a battery. The handy thing about the variant with a battery is that it is 'hot-swappable.' This means you can remove the battery without the VR headset shutting down. Ideal for when you want to play for longer periods or use the VR headset at a trade show or event.
2. Oculus Link Cable
The Meta Quest 2 is essentially a standalone VR headset, but did you know you can also connect it to a computer via a cable? This allows you to utilise the graphical power of your PC, unlocking a whole new world of VR games. Connecting your Quest 2 VR headset to a computer is called Oculus Link. It is recommended to use a longer cable (5 metres) for this, so you still have enough room to move freely.
Tip: To use Oculus Link, your computer must meet certain specifications. Check here whether your PC meets these requirements.
3. Charging Station
If there's anything annoying, it's being in the middle of a game and your VR headset dies because the batteries are empty. Therefore, use a VR charging station to charge your VR headset! Besides charging, it also looks neat to store your VR headset. A VR charging station is available in different variants. For instance, you can use one to charge only your Quest 2 VR headset, but it's also possible to charge (the batteries of) your controllers directly.
4. Facial Interface Replacement Set
You can replace the original mask that comes with the Meta Quest 2 VR headset, for something softer, thicker, or made of a different material. A soft face cushion ensures that the VR headset is more comfortable against your face. A thinner face cushion can make you sit closer to the lenses (and thus closer to the action), while a thicker face cushion can be handy if you want to wear glasses under the VR headset.
Additionally, you may consider a different face cushion if you have an allergic reaction to the foam of the VR headset. For example, you can also put a silicone mask over the face cushion so that the foam doesn't come into direct contact with your face.
5. Travel Case
When you want to take your Quest 2 VR headset with you or store it, it's handy to do so in a travel case or storage case. But if you use your VR headset with accessories like the Elite Strap, it's important to make sure the accessory fits in the travel case as well. There are several travel cases available that fit the different shapes of the Elite straps.
6. Power Bank or Extra Battery
Connect an extra power bank or battery to your Quest 2 VR headset to play for longer. You can use a standard external power bank for this, but there are also special power banks made for the Quest 2 VR headset. These power banks can be placed on the back of the Quest 2 VR headset and are nicely integrated into the head strap. The advantage of placing a power bank on the back of the VR headset is that it balances the headset better. This reduces the weight and pressure on the front of the headset, distributing it more evenly.
7. Controller Protection
Besides protecting your VR headset, you naturally don't want your controllers to get damaged. If you're playing a game like Beat Saber a bit too enthusiastically, you might accidentally hit a wall or ceiling. Therefore, protect your controllers with a sturdy controller grip. In addition to protecting your controller, the grips also ensure they fit better in your hands. For example, a silicone cover makes the controller less slippery, so it's less likely to slip out of your hands.
8. Lens Protection Rings
Especially when playing with glasses on, you don't want the sharp edges of your glasses to come into contact with the lenses, as this can cause scratches and smudges on the lenses. The lens rings essentially create a sort of wall around the lenses. This wall ensures that the sides of your glasses don't touch the lenses. The lens rings are also very useful in environments where multiple people use the VR headset. Additionally, some lens rings come in fun colours, so you can use them to mark or give your Quest 2 VR headset a different look.
9. VR Headset Stand
Finally, a handy accessory when you want to neatly store your VR headset. A VR Headset Stand can be used to put down your VR headset and display it nicely in the room. A VR Headset Stand isn't necessarily only for use with a Quest 2 VR headset but can often be used universally with other VR headsets. However, some VR Headset Stands might have space for controllers, making them specifically suitable for the Quest 2 VR headset.
10. Headphones or Earbuds
Good sound is essential for an immersive gaming experience. The Quest 2 VR headset already has built-in sound from the sides of the headset, but by adding external headphones or earbuds, you can better determine the direction of the sound. Are you playing a game where you need to sneak around in the dark? Then you want to hear if someone is walking right behind you. The Quest 2 VR headset has a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, allowing you to connect almost any headphones or earbuds. However, it's best to use headphones with a shorter cable so you don't accidentally get tangled up with your controllers in the cable.
