Apple aims to launch its first augmented reality (AR) headset in the second quarter of 2022, according to a new research note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (Ming-Chi Kuo is also considered the most reliable analyst at the moment).
Predictions
Apple aims to launch its first augmented reality (AR) headset in the second quarter of 2022, according to a new research note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (Ming-Chi Kuo is also considered the most reliable analyst at the moment).
We predict that Apple will launch a new display technology in 2022. The device will offer a transparent lens, so the lens is also necessary, and Genius is an important supplier in this regard.
The research report focuses on the prospects for the key supplier Genius Electronic Optical, noting that the company will contribute to several upcoming products and technologies from companies including Facebook, Sony, and Apple.
Rumour has it that Apple is working on several models of AR headsets, led by an initial augmented reality device. It is not yet known whether this will be launched this year [2021] or next year [2022]. There is also talk of a slimmer pair of augmented reality glasses, possibly around 2025.
As recently as January, Kuo predicted that Apple's first AR device would debut sometime in 2021, but by March he had pushed his prediction back to "mid-2022," which is more in line with the new report.

Hefty price tag
For now, the first AR device seems like something we haven't seen before. At first glance, the design somewhat resembles a pair of ski goggles. With large lenses at the front and a soft headband, the device appears to seal well around the eyes. The headset promises 'an immersive experience that surpasses existing VR headsets'.
However, the new AR device from Apple comes with a hefty price tag. According to rumours, the new glasses will cost around 3000 dollars. This suggests that the glasses are not in direct competition with Oculus or HTC but are more aligned with Microsoft's [HoloLens 2].
We are certainly curious about what Apple will come up with in the near future. One thing seems certain: Apple is setting its sights on VR/AR.
