Meta is discontinuing its business offer of Meta Quest as of 20 February 2026

Meta has informed us that the current business offer of Meta Quest is being discontinued as of 20 February. By "business offer" we primarily mean the Work/Edu hardware variants (with associated business SKUs) and the way HMS has been delivered as a business management offer to date.

HMS (Meta Horizon Managed Services) is Meta's management suite for business deployment of Quest headsets. This allows you to register, configure, manage, and support devices within an organisation (similar to device management/enterprise management for XR).

Important to mention: the business hardware variants (Work/Edu) were typically supplied with a 3-year warranty, which is a relevant difference for many organisations compared to regular consumer hardware.

Below we explain what changes, what remains the same and what this practically means for existing and new business customers.

What changes as of 20 February?

1) End of specific "business" SKUs (Work/Edu variants)

Meta is discontinuing the business SKUs for Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S (Work/Edu variants), including:

  • SK-1000934-01
  • SK-1000945-01
  • SK-1000940-01

2) End of HMS as a bundle/license product (HMS remains available separately)

Meta is stopping offering HMS as part of a business Work/Edu bundle. This means that the following HMS-related license SKUs will no longer be available:

  • SK-1000234
  • SK-1001047

Important note: HMS itself is not being discontinued. As of 20 February, HMS will remain as a separate, free to use product, which becomes available through registration/download, rather than as part of a specific Work/Edu hardware bundle.

3) Consumer SKUs + HMS remain possible (limited impact on new roll-out)

From 20 February 2026, organisations can, according to Meta, continue to use HMS in conjunction with a consumer version of the Meta Quest (e.g. Quest 3 / Quest 3S). This allows managed deployment to continue, even now that the specific business (Work/Edu) hardware variants are being discontinued. The practical impact on new roll-out is therefore expected to be limited.

What remains the same?

Existing customers: no direct impact

For organisations already using the business bundles/subscriptions, according to Meta, nothing changes in the existing setup and deployment.

Subscription expired? Then continue on free HMS

When a (paid) HMS subscription expires, customers can, according to Meta, continue on the free version of HMS. Meta indicates that HMS will remain available and free until at least 2030.

Support remains available

Meta indicates that support for business deployment of the existing products will remain available.

Practically: what does this mean for new roll-out and purchasing?

  • From 20 February, HMS becomes free (until at least 2030, according to Meta).
  • New business projects can now be based on consumer SKUs (Quest 3 / Quest 3S), in combination with HMS for management.
  • Meta expects that HMS will be available to download/activate from 20 February via a registration flow on their website.

Context: this fits in with Meta's previous course

Over the past few years, Meta has frequently repositioned its business programme: from Oculus for Business to Quest for Business, and then the rebranding to (Meta) Horizon Managed Services. In addition, Meta has simplified its portfolio by phasing out the Quest 2 and Quest Pro among others.
