The Best Windows Mixed Reality Headsets
When you think of a VR-headset, the first headsets to come to mind are probably the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. This is not surprising, as these are the most popular and powerful headsets on the market. But what if we told you there are many more VR-headsets available?! Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) headsets are often cheaper, yet very good alternatives to the more expensive VR-headsets.
WMR-headsets
Most WMR-headsets offer a high-end experience at a more affordable price. Similar to a VR-headset, you connect a WMR-headset to your computer. However, rather than setting up base stations in the corners of the room (as with the HTC Vive), you can put on the WMR-headset and start playing immediately. The tracking of a WMR-headset comes from within: the so-called inside-out tracking. While an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive requires sensors or base stations to track the headset and controllers, a WMR-headset can do this from its own headset. You simply plug the headset into your computer and can start playing immediately without a complex setup. To help you choose a good WMR-headset, we have already selected a few options for you:

1. Samsung Odyssey Plus
Often referred to as the "Mercedes of headsets," the Samsung Odyssey+ is one of (or perhaps the) most comfortable headsets on the market. Its lightweight design and soft, comfortable fit make it a perfect match for everyone. Besides excellent comfort, the Samsung Odyssey+ also boasts an incredibly beautiful display, making videos and games look stunning.
2. Lenovo Explorer
Lenovo's WMR-headset offers a high resolution (2 x 1440x1440) and a refresh rate of 90Hz, providing a sharp image and smooth motion. The light design of the Lenovo Explorer also makes the headset suitable for extended use.

3. Dell Visor
The Dell Visor has a very good price/quality ratio. Its specifications are similar to the Lenovo Explorer, but the headset feels a bit heavier. A benefit of the Dell Visor is the flip-screen, allowing you to easily lift the visor without removing the entire headset.
4. Meta 2
An oddity in this list, the Meta 2 is the most innovative headset of them all. Specially developed for developers and business users, the Meta 2 allows you to see and interact with your own environment. This is the future of virtual reality, though it’s not yet accessible to the general public.

New Headset: Microsoft HoloLens 2
Microsoft's HoloLens was the first WMR-headset to run on Windows 10 back in 2016, marking a revolutionary step in the VR-wereld industry. It was like a "iron-man headset" you’d only seen in films until then. Unfortunately, its high price made it a non-starter for consumers, so Microsoft primarily targeted the business market. In this year, 2019, the second version of the HoloLens is being released, with Microsoft again focusing on business users. The HoloLens 2 offers several significant upgrades compared to the first. Where the HoloLens 1 caused some tunnel vision, the HoloLens 2 has an incredibly wide field of view, making it feel as if there's nothing in front of your eyes.

Built-in Iris Scanner
Another new feature of the HoloLens 2 is its built-in iris scanner. The headset can recognise the user by their eyes and tailor the experience to them. Additionally, the HoloLens 2 also has a camera to scan the surroundings. This allows holograms to be projected accurately onto appropriate surfaces, and the headset can track hand movements precisely. The holograms produced by the HoloLens 2 have also been upgraded, making them appear even more realistic. The HoloLens 2 uses laser projections displayed on the screen in front of your eyes, creating convincing holograms and a wider field of view. The HoloLens 2 was announced on 24 February 2019 at MWC2019, but it is still unknown when it will actually be available for order. Pre-orders has already begun for the US, so we expect it won’t be too long before the HoloLens 2 is available. For more information, contact our customer service.
