bHaptics
Anyone who has seen Steven Spielberg's film 'Ready Player One' dreams of a virtual reality suit that allows for full immersion into the virtual world. How amazing would it be to not only see virtual reality but also feel it?! With the haptic feedback suits from bHaptics, this becomes a reality. Strap yourself into the haptic vest, the TactSuit, and feel the impact of your actions in an VR-game! Gunshots, explosions, or a light breeze... You can add a fun extra dimension to your VR-ervaring by adjusting the intensity of the feedback.
What is a haptic suit?
A haptic suit, or haptic suit, is a wearable suit or vest that allows you to feel the impact of movements in virtual reality. Because there are many individual sensors throughout the suit, you can often feel haptic feedback, in the form of vibrations, in very specific places. You might feel this feedback, for example, when you are shot in an VR-game or when an explosion occurs. This feedback enhances the speel-ervaring and immersion for the player, as you can not only see but also feel virtual reality.
What products does bHaptics offer?
bHaptics is currently one of the most advanced haptic-developers in the market. With the TactSuit, they now have a vest with 40 individual sensors, a face cushion, arm sleeves with 6 sensors each, and gloves and shoes each with 3 sensors. The more parts of the TactSuit you wear, the better the overall experience becomes. However, the great thing about TactSuit is that it is not necessary to wear the entire suit. For example, you can just use the vest for haptic feedback!
TACTOT Haptic Vest
The Haptic Vest is the first and most comprehensive haptic-feedback product from bHaptics. With the placement of 40 individual sensors on the voor- and back of the vest, you can feel exactly where you are hit in an VR-spel. Not only is this a very enjoyable sensation, but it is also quite handy! For instance, in an shooter-game, you can feel if you are hit from behind and quickly turn in the direction of the enemy. The haptic vest has a universal fit, meaning it is suitable for both young and old, men and women. The vest fastens with two Velcro straps on the user's back. When a player puts on the vest, the Velcro straps should be completely loose. This makes it easy to fasten the vest with the zipper. The Velcro straps can then be tightened on the sides of the vest, so the haptic feedback is well experienced by the player.
TACTAL Haptic Face Cushion for HMD
The bHaptics face cushion allows you to feel haptic feedback on your face. The face cushion contains 6 sensors that can provide haptic feedback at different intensities. Fortunately, the intensity can also be adjusted here, so not every feedback feels like a headshot. For instance, you can feel a cool breeze on your face by setting the feedback lightly.
The Tactal face cushion is available in two sizes: standard and wide. The standard model is suitable for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Samsung Odyssey, and Oculus Quest. The wide-variant is suitable for HTC Vive Pro, HTC Vive Focus and Focus Plus, and all Pimax VR-brillen. The face cushion can be easily attached to the headset using Velcro.
TACTOSY Haptic Accessories
To complete the set, you can also add the Tactosy accessories to the vest and face cushion. The accessories consist of two pieces of arm-sleeves, two gloves, and two shoes. All accessories can be linked to a computer or headset using bluetooth-connectie. For the gloves and shoes, it is necessary to add HTC Vive Trackers 2.0. These trackers allow hands and feet to be used in the games. For instance, you can play an VR-spel where you are the goalkeeper of a football team. When you catch the ball with your hands, you can feel the sensors on your hand vibrating. The extra HTC Vive Trackers are not needed for the arm-sleeves.
How do bHaptics products work?
bHaptics distinguishes itself from competing haptic solutions through its ease of use. The bHaptics-apparaten are not 1-op-1 linked with a VR-spel or headset but connect via a bluetooth-apparaat. If the computer has Bluetooth, the bHaptics products are easy to pair. If the computer does not have Bluetooth, you can always create a mobile bluetooth-spot using the included Bluetooth dongle. You can pair up to 5 bHaptics-apparaten on one bluetooth-dongle. This means you can connect one full set of bHaptics-apparaten per computer. The advantage of a Bluetooth connection is that there is little to no interference or latency when multiple bHaptics products are used in a space. This makes bHaptics products highly suitable for use in professional and business environments, such as a VR arcade.
After purchasing bHaptics, you will need to download and install the included software. This software, bHaptics Player, allows the devices to connect via Bluetooth. For developers, it is possible to download an SDK or bHaptics software (bHaptics Designer). This software allows you to design and save your own haptic-feedback patterns. This gives a unique experience when you add your own feedback-patronen to a virtual reality-film.
What is audio to haptics?
With the haptic vest from bHaptics, it is even possible to convert audio-input into haptic feedback. This so-called audio-to-haptics solution allows you to convert any VR-game or -film (with sound) into haptic feedback! This makes it possible to experience VR-games without native-support, such as Beat Saber, still with haptic feedback.
For musicians, producers, or just music lovers, the audio-haptische feedback can be a fun addition to the experience. The additional stimulation from the feedback draws you more into the music, significantly improving the work-flow of producers and musicians. It's also a lot of fun to let someone wear the vest and experience your music for the first time by "feeling" it. Tip: connect a noise-cancelling headset to the audio-output to fully immerse the user in the music.
Which games are compatible with bHaptics?
bHaptics offers native-support for the following games: Sairento VR (Steam/Oculus), Thrill of The Fight (Steam/Oculus), Space Block Buster (Steam), Space Junkies (Oculus), Snow Fortress (Steam and Oculus), Furious Seas (Steam), VRZ: Torment (Steam), Hell Breakers (Steam), & Tsun-Tsun VR (Steam). Native-support means that the bHaptics devices are fully compatible with the mentioned games. With the bHaptics software (bHaptics Player), you can connect the devices to your computer, and when the products are turned on, they will automatically connect with the games.
There are also some games that do not offer native-support but are still compatible with bHaptics. In this case, the devices use the Audio-To-Haptics technique. This makes it possible to play popular games like Beat Saber and Pistol Whip. It is essential to have a audio-output on the games, so the haptic feedback knows exactly where and how intensely to provide feedback.
It is also perfectly possible to create your own haptic feedback. This is especially cool when you are making an VR-film or -ervaring. With the included bHaptics Designer software, you can draw a haptic-feedback pattern and play it back at a specific moment.
